Did the plumber by chance replace your showerhead??
If he/she did - then it sounds like you do not have a Pressure Balanced showerhead which controls the amount the hot and cold water coming thru especially when water is used elswhere in the house (be it dishwasher, clothes washer, toilet or another shower).
You can also purchase Posi Temp Showerheads which are Pressure Balanced - but with the posi temp ones you can set the max high temp the handle the hot can be turned too. This is a safety feature for households with small children and even sometimes the elderly who might be foregettful about not setting the right temp or are not as sensitive to high temps therefore riskying scalding themselves if set too high.
Moen is one of the manufactures of such showerheads and they do come in a variety of price ranges - I'm sure other companys have them as well.

hi,if you also replaced the hardware, its possible that the ballast is defective.the ballast is what controls the water temp.an example would be,the water getting hot when your in the shower and someone flushes the toilet.in most states it is code that when you remodel or build new you must use hardware with a ballast so as to protect children from getting scalded.
Your shower head is not controlling the temperature but the control valve (wall mixture) which fitted normally below the
shower do the mixing of the temperature. Please try operating this mixture valve to hot or cold position for a few times like keeping it in extremely cold (Blue) condition or extremely hot(Red) side and open the mixture and see if any change in the temperature. It is possible that the mixture would have become defective and /or needs changing of a simple washer, etc. The best thing to do is to find out the name of the company and go to their site to find out which model of the shower you have. Then, ring them up in local contacts and they will send their service man. Most of good plumbing materials manufacturers have a back up service which is done free of charge. You have to sweet talk to them and tell them like how you adore their fittings and suddenly you have faced this problem. Most are sympathetic and do a good service free of charge.
