Central Air Question for Qualifies Technician?
Question:Im buying a condo and the central air unit is in a closet on the wall I believe it is the compressor then the line runs over to the condensor which is on top of the furnace Im looking to replace as soon as I mover in and was wondering if you could tell me what a common name for this setup is or brands that distribute it as all I can find are the AC units that you ussually find outside on the ground rather than a wall hanging unit,Thanks alot

It would be hard to answer until you get this info. All outside units contain this: Condensing unit... Compressor, condenser, condenser fan and contactor also a disconnect on exposed wall. Inside unit: Evaporator( cooling coil) squirrel cage blower( evaporator fan) furnace ( either electric or gas heating unit) and inside thermostat. There may also be accessories, dehumidifiers, air cleaners etc. Now that said; there are some Mitsubishi units that hang on the wall with evap inside and clam shelled to the outside condenser, all in one unit... hope that helps.. note* the set-up is a 28-30" closet unit.. They are sometimes more expensive than reg. size due to size and install problems. get estimates and brands aval. now. they will vary greatly)
You have a split system,I've seen these,Lennox made them, the condenser is thru the wall.Dont know where or if you can find that type anymore, most go with the split that has the condenser outside on the ground. The big thing is what floor its located on,might be hard to get the line set and wiring to the groung....good luck
sorry I'm no technician but before you do anything I would check with the neighbors but mostly with the Condo Association about their rules & regulations concerning the A/C unit system. Not knowing what type of building and/or what floor you will be living is hard to correctly informed you.
Some high building have their second split system located on the roof or on the ground behind in the back of the building.
