My pool 13 feet and 39 inch deep. Should I keep the pump on ALL the time.?

Question:I have had it going for a week. Am kinda wondering that the electric biil will be high with it on. Was thinking just to turn it on a few days at a time and when were swimming. The pool has a cover. Any suggestions?? tips??

Answers:
id turn it on the day before using it and the day you are. then you wont waste energy

You don't need to run it all the time especially since you'll be keeping it covered when not in use. Ours is somewhat larger and we run it 2-3 times a week depending on use. If used daily for extended periods or with multiple people in there, maybe more often. The size of the pump and filter is also important. Initially I would run it daily for a few hours then grandually cut back until you see a problem developing and go back up a bit. Keep the pool chemically balanced, that also helps.
You would be safe to put your pump on a timer or turn it on only 4-6 hours a day. Regular back yard, in ground pools only run about 8 hours a day to keep them clear. The only time you would run it other than that is while you are swimming or if there is a storm to keep the water circulating through the pump to filter out the impurities that come in from the wind and rain.
Happy swimming!
