What direction do i run my celing fan in the summer with my air on to help cool my house ??
Question:what direction do i need my celing fan to run (clockwise or counter clockwise) in the summer when i have my air conditioning on to help cool my home ?
Answers:
In the summer the air should flow down. In the winter the air should flow up. If you feel a breeze blowing down it is correct.
Heat rises, so down in the winter and up in the summer.
Just turn it on!
In reverse so all the cool air rises first
around
Blow the air down. Sure hot air rises, but its not like you can just suck up all the heat and keep it trapped up there - a fan really just moves the air around. Have the fan blow down since that creates a stronger breeze, and a stronger breeze cools you off. Ill put it this way: do you feel cooler when a fan is pointed at you, or away from you?
clockwise in the summer, counter clockwise in the winter
it depends on where the air ducts for the ac are if they are on the floor it should pull the air up if in the ceiling blow the air down
You might want to look up the word convection. Unless the fan is supported in a vaulted room you are moving (hot) air around with a ceiling fan. Hot air rises, cold air is more dense (heavier) than hot air. If your HVAC registers are mounted near the ceiling, the air will work it's way down to the floor. The air is mixed with warm air becoming hotter, and starts to rise. Rising hot air causes the air to circulate throughout the room (house). To answer your question, running the ceiling fan while the A/C is on helps mix the hot air to an average temperature faster, makeing the room cooler quicker. After 10 minutes (unless your talking a two story or vaulted house) you are mixing warm air with colder air, until you equalize the ambient heat with the maximum ability of the A/C unit (or until another person enters the room).
looks like yu got all the good anwsers already. i agree, in the summer you want to feel the air blowing on you, in the winter the fan moves the air across the ceiling and down the walls, you don't feel the air but it helps keep the house warmer.
point the fan away from the open window
