I have a weird sulfur like smell coming from my refrigerator. What could be the cause?

Question:

I doubt that's rotten eggs...they would smell allot worse than sulfur. Possibly a chemical leak from the compressor. Freon maybe. Not an expert, just a thought.

oooooh.rotten eggs! careful when you throw them out as not to break the shells. P-YEW! :)
Sulfur type smells often come from water. If you have an icemaker you may find it's the culprit. The ice does concentrate the water a bit which gives off some of the chemicals and sulfur is one.

If you want to test it, you can empty all the ice and turn off the water. Drain the tube to the ice maker. Clean everything thoroughly and check for the smell for a few days. If it's not there, you can almost bet the icemaker is doing it.

It's possible to put a filter on the water system that will eliminate the chemicals in the water (for the most part anyway). Many types are available from a whole house filter to one for a spigot.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
That is the smell of an urgent need to clean your refrigerator more than once every couple of years. Check the dates on the jar of mayonnaise you bought when Carter was president. Take a look at the eggs, too.
Assuming its coming from food or spills in fridge -I found the perfect product that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a natural carbon product called FRIDGE IT carbon odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great and eliminates the odors and for a long time. It works so much better than baking soda all those sprays, and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. and gels and oils that say keep away from fabric, pets, etc. and just don't eliminate odors. Just place one in fridge and one in freezer. Each only costs a couple of dollars. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it and internet. Definitely worth trying
