Plumber's Advice! I recently had some plumbing done. They were.?

Question:..in and out of my house in 32 minutes. All they did was run a bypass from the kitchen sink through an exterior wall then down into the sewer drain. Total cost they charged me was $400.00..That seems like an awful lot for 32 minutes of work and about 15 feet of PVC pipe. Did I get overcharged?

Answers:
Plumbers charge portal to portal plus I sounds like there were two or more guys. 1 hour travel plus 1/2 hour labor x 2 x $95 per hour = $300 plus materials x 20%. It seems a little steep, but like the previous guy said, whats your time worth?
In my office I bill out at $100 per hour, and $225 per hour in the field; I don't walk mail to the post office (my secretary does). My time is too expensive.

yeah
My husband was a plumber - it's practically their job to overcharge. Or you could do it yourself, f*ck up the job, and have to pay the plumbers even more to fix it.
This falls into the "pain in the ***" category. Was it worth the $400 for them to do this? How many hours would it have taken you do do this same thing? Plumbers are expensive, just like anything else. $400 was probably about right.
Did they have to dig? Judging buy what you are describing, I would say that you got hosed. If it was a local company and they did not have to do any excavating, just the PVC pipe and the fittings needed, the labor should not have been more then about $50.00 ( if they were honest) and the pipe and fittings about the same unless they had to make a long run with the bypass
I wouldn't be complaining.
Any tradesman are expensive. Your paying for their expertise. Anything goes wrong & it's their fault not yours. When you are talking about plumbing then you are talking about major repairs if something goes wrong with it. That's what your paying for - a proper job & no problems.

Also, some insurances won't pay up for any damages caused by DIY plumbing.

The $400 was well worth it.
no if they didn't then your whole floor could have collapsed becuase of water softening your floors
you got ripped. I am not even sure the work was in accordance to building code.

Stop the check?

I bet they collected cash.
sounds like a plumber to me,,
If you live in California , or the big city-no. Anywhere else-you got robbed. Even if they charge you a 4 hour min @ $60/hr it would only be $240. Yeah, that was a little stiff. You know what to do next time-ask "how much?"-first!
I feel for you. I got bit about 2 years ago on an asphalt driveway. It was a little more.
