My clothes washer works well until the final rinse and drain time for the cycle. What part is broken?
Question:There is a slight burnt smell around the washer. It was working fine and now it is not finishing the cylce and draining the water out. Thanks for the advice!
Answers:
Your pump is going out if the water isn't draining. I suspect it isn't draining from the wash cycle, so you really aren't getting a rinse cycle. Burnt smell tells me that the motor overloads are getting hot. Replacing the pump and motor assembly can be done, but the amount of labor involved and price of a pump and motor would indicate getting a reconditioned washer from a used appliance store. They'll take the old one off your hands, too.
does the rinse and spin cycle work on other settings, like delicate, or permanent press? also, does it still pump the water out after a wash cycle, if you set the timer to the end of the wash cycle? if it won't pump out the water on any cycle, it could be a bad pump, worn or broken belt (if it has one, you don't tell us what brand your washer is). if it does work on other settings, your timer could be shot, burned out contacts inside of it on that setting. in that case, you need a new timer, it's not a repairable item. i might be able to give you a better answer if you told us the brand (whirlpool, maytag, g.e.) and type of washer, i.e., front loader, top loader.
Sounds like your timer is bad. This part can be changed out very easy. It will be a matter of unplugging the part and plugging the new one in. This part will be located behind your control knob where you select your wash cycles.
it could be your timer or lid switch or drain pump is either bad or something in it causing motor to overheat. if burn smell is at timer location then it has burned contact points if it is at bottom then i would check drain pump.
