How do you thread stainless steel rod?

Question:

Answers:
Threaded stainless steel rods are not hard to find. If you only need one or two it may be cheaper and easier to buy than to purchase the equipment to thread your own.

with a die from a tap and die set. you can buy them at sears, auto parts, or hardware stores. good luck.
Stainless steel is no different than mild steel when it comes to threads. You will need the thread die for the diameter and thread pitch you want, a die stock to hold the die, a good vise to hold the rod, some cutting oil, and some manual dexterity to 'git 'er done!

If you only need to cut a few threads, or do not have the necessary tools, it may be cheaper to stop at a local machine shop and let them do it for you.
You can also buy already threaded stainless steel rod called all thread at most hardware stores. Stainless steel can also be threaded with a good quality die set you can easily find most anywhere.

Threading stainless steel is a bit trickier because it tends to create more burrs. Take your time and use plenty of cutting oil.
