A wet paint smell is coming out of my vents after turning on my central ac unit. Any suggestions?

One possiblity is that your condensation pan is probably almost full or overflowing. First, check the condensation drip line and make sure it it dripping. If not, that line is clogged up. You can clean it in several ways: you can use compressed air (like a bicycle pump or tire inflater) to blow out the line; or you can use a garden hose (but this can make a mess in your attic) or you can call a serviceman. Once the line is clear, if that's the problem, you can put an algae tab in your condensation pan to keep algae from re-growing and clogging the line.

Hopefully, you don't have a roof leak. But that could be the problem. Also, squirrels, possums, etc., can get in your attic and gnaw through the duct work, allowing moisture from the atmosphere to be sucked into the airducts. Check for breaks in your ducts. But my best guess is that it's your condensation pan.

Here's a website with a diagram of a condensation pan (or drip pan) shown beneath the evaporator coils. http://www.achrnews.com/news/2005/31/fil...
