Why is my air conditioner full of water?
Question:I have a window air conditioning unit in my bedroom. Lately it has been blowing out water. Am I supposed to drain the unit? And where does this water come from? It doesn't cool as much anymore. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

The water comes from the air. As an air conditioner cools the air, it also dehumidifies.
Imagine a cold drink on a hot day. Water condenses on the outside surface of the glass or can. It is the same thing happening inside an a/c unit, moisture condenses on the cold a/c coil inside.
There should be a pan under the coil, and a drain hose which makes the water drain outside, out the back of the unit. Either the hose is clogged, or the drain pan is clogged.
your a/c shouldnt be retaining water, the one in my livingroom drips out the back onto the sidewalk, maybe you need to tilt it back a little bit to get the water to drain out. i hope i helped.
ahhh idk where it comes from or what but your not the only one mine fills up w/ ice it sux it makes such a horrible noise and for some reason it only does it at like 3am
i will be reading this post again and hope some one else can help
I've had a similar problem. Remove the front cover. Depending on the model, there will be a small slot along the bottom that leads to the outside. This "drain channel" becomes clogged. I used a can of compressed air to blow out the channel. Problem solved. I found all kinds of debris in the drain. The drain is not very big so you may need a flash light to locate it. The water is the humidity the a/c unit is removing from the air. I hope this helps.
What happens is that the air conditioner gets cold and makes a sort of ice and then when the ac turns off the ice melts and out comes water like in a car. If it continues outside through a window then it should drain on its own.
That's basically what an air conditioner does. It removes humidity from the air and allows it to drip down the coil into a drain pan. That's where it comes from.
If its blowing out into the room, then the drain plug may be stopped up or it may not be leaning out properly.
As far as not cooling correctly, remove the unit from the window. It should slide out of the case its sitting in (may be a few screws holding it in) and take it outside.
More than likely the coils are dirty and not allowing air to pass over them like they should.
Take a can of air or an air compressor and blow all the dust and dirt out of the coils. This allows for proper air flow and helps them to cool better.
Some units also have filters built into them that can clog up and limit air flow too. Other than that there really aren't usually any serviceable parts in a window unit.
Depending on the AC unit, either your drain hose/hole is plugged or you have a lot of humidity right now. Some AC units are designed to catch the condensation from inside the house and spray it up into the hot condenser to help cool it off. Check what you have.
