My Dyson (Animal) seems to have lost suction power. I have lost all the info on what to do.Any suggestions?
Question:Have made sure the hose is unblocked, emptied the collection bucket and cleaned (and dried) the filters.??
Answers:
I would double check that it's not a blockage. I've got a Dyson and they do get blockages in the strangest places.
The other thing to do is to make sure all the pipes etc are attached properly. Sometimes one of the little pipe fittings down by the base of the cleaner gets knocked slightly loose and I have to push it back into place, then it's fine.
If you can't get to the bottom of it, try a google search for the Dyson helpline. I've called them before and they were very helpful.
You need to trace the "pathway" the air follows through the machine. We had a similar problem, turned out to be a piece of paper stuck in a duct in the machine itself.
I get this all the time with mine. If yours has the same filter set up as mine there is one in the top of the cyclone that is a sponge with a fabric/paper filter as well. The paper filter is always getting bunged up even if it looks clean and I have found that washing it by immersing it in a bowl of white spirit gets the dirt out without destroying the filter( you need to pump it up and down in the bowl to get the white spirit flowing through it). If you have access to an airline you can blow it out as well. There is another "post motor filter" at the bottom of the cyclone and this suffers from the same problem. It is only there to catch dust from the motor itself and I find the easiest way to deal with that one is to throw it away and do without it. Mine is like new when the filters have been cleaned like this.
My Dyson has become blocked a couple of times when the hose has been completely clear. This caused complete lack of suction. It's a part between the actual intake of rubbish and the container. I found a hole where I could access this area and cleared an accummulation of packed grot using a wire coat hanger!
Try the customer helpline as suggested.
