Answers:
Washing up liquid and a stiff brush, if it is dry kitty litter wont work!

try kitty liter .
a pressure washer, u can rent them at any rental place
i know you can get rid of oil and vandal grease of your skin by rubbing butter or margerine on the areas of your skin where you have it. then rinsing of with warm soapy water
If it has really absorbed the oil I would just replace the slabs

A mixture I have used with success on my paviours is :
Swarfega ( type) hand cleaner rubbed it then biological washing powder and finally washing up liquid
Leave the layers on for a couple of days then wash away with hot water
Once it soaks in, you'll have it. Maybe a stiff scrub brush and Dawn dish liquid, if your lucky. Get it all soapy and wet, let it soak for a while then scrub the crap out of it. That would be your best bet to try.
Castrol Superclean. Should be able to find it at a auto/hardware store.
try coca cola. it cleaned it of our block paving although it hadn't completely dried. worked a treat
Have you ever tried simple green, over the counter cleaning product, and some really hot water.
That may do it for you.
it happened to me once too.

i sprinkled some tide laundry soap on it, wet it with a bit of water, scrubbed it into the concrete with a scrub brush and let it sit for about 5 min. then blasted it and the surrounding concrete with a pressure washer to blend it all to look exactly the same.it came out beautiful :)
neat washing up liquid scrub and rinse off
I've got the same problem.
Cat litter dries up wet oil,its what engineers use only their version is cheaper cos it don't come in fancy packages with fancy names and added scent.
I've tried high pressure jet, a professional one not £50 quid from Argos, that don't work, neither did patio cleaner from B & Q.
Scrubbed with washing powder and all sorts, that dont work.
However patience seems the answer because if you just leave it rain, appears to be better than anything.God knows how long it will take to completely disappear but it is going slowly.
Cheaper than replacing
Get some degreaser, a good strong broom and a willing granny, with persistence and patience a granny can do anything, I met one once who spent six hours cleaning a nonstick frying pan, in the end it was gleaming...

James H. A paviour is a man who lays paving slabs, surely you didn't have to wash him before sending him home!
