My dishwasher is not draining correctly. Help!?

Question:I have a kenmore dishwasher and it's not draining correctly. The dishes aren't getting clean and there is some water sitting in the bottom when it's done too. We took off the little screen at the bottom and there is nothing down there except the dirty water. PLease can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Answers:
Check your discharge hose for clogs.

Mine is a Whirlpool, did the same thing. My drain hose was kinked. Check out that hose, if that's not it, then it's corroded and clogged inside.

I run 1/2 bottle of The Works Lime away through mine every couple of months, (empty), and then run 2-3 empty plain water cycles after that to keep mine open and free flowing now. If real bad, then I redo those steps with the other half bottle. Works great.
I had the same problem... it might be that the hose leading from the washer to the drain is clogged with something or the hose is possibly kinked... You need to inspect the hose, the only way to do that is to pull out the washer and look at it.. if it's not kinked try blowing into it to see if it's clogged..
You need a new dishwasher. My last house came with a low end GE Profile that gave up the ghost after about 7 yrs. Be sure to go for a higher end model.
its not the hose; they just don't kink all of a sudden. for a Kenmore( whirlpool ) here are the most common problems that cause those symptoms; first.. in Kenmore d/w the drain valve ( some models ) has a tendency to get plugged up with debris, food matter, small pieces of plastic ( stuck on the bottom of dishes) etc. It will allow only a partial drain as the exit into drain hose is only partially open. 2. The drain impeller , inside pump ( under screen cover) is worn down from use and will not move enough water in drain cycle. 3.The filter screen is plugged. 4.The drain hose exit( disposer, or sink has a partial plug. These are the common problems I see, some you can deal with ( pull drain hose, screen, .Others are more involved ( appliance call ) Good luck!
If your dishwasher connects to a disposal I have seen that connection get clogged before. You will need to remove the hose from the disposal and visually inspect the opening to make sure it isn't blocked. You might also be able to listen to the water running into your sink as the dishwasher drains. A small amount of water in the bottom is normal. You also might try running powdered citric acid through you dishwasher(with no dishes in it) to improve the cleaning ability of your washer. You should be able to get it at a health food store. I hope this helps.

the dishwasher has a solenoid on the side the Way to check is to pull the switch up and see if the water drains,it sounds like an electrical problem.
It may be the pump. Probably time to call a repair person.
