When I flush my toilet it hisses until it fills. Does anyone know why?

Question:

Answers:
The filler water tube going into the water tank has a kink in it. That is why it makes the hissing sound. You have to replace that link of pipe.

It is not a tough job. Or get a plumber to do it.

Check also to make sure the shutoff valve is fully open.
that's the sound of your water going through the little pipe into the tank. it's totally normal and not a problem like the first answer said.
you have muskrats!
Possible quick-fix:
Reduce the water pressure for the toilet. There is a little valve for the cistern on the wall. Shut it, and then turn it open again, but just a little.
if the hissing bothers you install a Fluidmaster universal ballcock valve this will end your hissing problem
It's the valve. I bought one about a year ago that does the same thing. Live with it or buy a new filler valve.
A common reason for noisy toilet is an old fill valve. A complete replacement kit is cheap and easy to install. Fluidmaster. Just follow directions, be patient, experiment a little til it fills and flushes the way you like.
