Shower faucet repair?

Question:I have an older american standard 1 handle tub and shower faucet that leaks. How does the stem come out? It has a set screw inside stem at the back. When I loosen that it still wont come out of valve body. Valve body looks to be 1 piece. There is nothing that screws into it except retaining nut.

Answers:
If it's a single handle, it's not all that old.

If you have the handle off, that's usually the hardest part to do because they freeze on the stem pretty good sometimes.

If you are that far with it, you may have to WD40 the retaining nut, and use a small chain wrench that will put equal pressure all the way around the nut to loosen it.

Side note---I have to use my chain wrench all the time on Deltas

should be under the plastic/metal part in the middle. You probably have to replace the entire unit.
get make and model as best you can. go to american standard website and see if you can find a similar unit and there should be a manuel. You can also take a digital photo and go to you nearest ace or tru-value, they should be able to assist you with what ever you need.
