Roof shingles curling only in 1 area was replaced about 8 years ago?
Question:Done by previous owners will i still be covered under the warranty being the new owners
Answers:
I am assuming wood shingles here- Retired is dead on regarding how the warranty would be handled. Regarding localized curling, there are a couple of things that could cause the problem.
in no particular order:
A) Defective bundle of shingles: If that particular bundle is defective, then replacement is in order- and you have a good argument that it should not be prorated.
B) Localized ventilation problem: If that section of the roof does not have proper ventilation underneath, it probably wouldn't have leaked, but the tops of the shingles would dry well and the bottom of the shingle would maintain moisture- swell more than the top and curl or cup.
C) Poor water shedding: If that section of the roof is in a valley, at a lower pitch, or where water discharges from higher roof surfaces, it may be particularly susceptible to premature
aging due to heavier water infiltration than the rest of the roof.
Regardless of what repair is done, or who pays for it, address the cause so the problem won't return.
Best of luck.
Are they wood or shingle, are they 20 or 30 year warranty? Are they curling because of wind or if asphalt have they shrunk? Do you know the manufacture or make?
Depends on the contract they had with the contractor. Also if you have a copy of that contract. If the shingles have a 10 year warranty you'll only get 2/10th of cost toward replacement with the same shingle.
that looks like wood is getting wet.look under the shingles..
