How do you get the freeone removed from an old fridge?
Question:and the cost liveing in sarnia ont.
Answers:
the proper and lawful way is to put a line tap on the box and remove the freon using a recovery pump and placing the freon in an approved container.this freon is expensive..if you knew a guy in the business he may want to get the freon out to reuse. If you had a freon bottle and a hose you could do it .heres a trick we use to do back in the day. put a empty freon bottle in a bucket of ice and below the old appliance.open up the low side and let the freon go into the bottle all of the freon wont go out on its own it must be coaxed out. hince the bucket of ice .the cold bottle will collect the freon. when the guage goes to 0 pressure you have it all.
Hi. I'm in the States but, here, most appliance stores that do repairs are happy to come out and recover the freon. They need it to recharge the older fridges. Some auto repair shops will do it too. Good luck and thanks for trying to do the right thing for our planet!
I'm from NS, and we used to have to remove the freon from old refrigerators before disposing of them. It was expensive because a professional was required to do this. The laws here have changed and we can now put old appliances out for garbage pickup without removing the refrigerant. Check the rules in your area with your municipal refuse collector.
Some HVAC companies offer the service - They use a freon recovery system - it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour depnding on the system $50-100 dollars
