Help central heating and air unit freezing?

Question:my air conditioner keeps freezing up on my furnace and the outside unit keeps whining what could this be.

Answers:
It could be a recharge is needed but it could also mean the unit is coming on when it shouldn't as in when its cold outside
and if the return doesn't generate enough hot air to keep it from freezing up. it happens at the engineering lab where I work all the time in the winter months.. I would get the gas levels checked and if thats not the problem have them check the air filter in the compressure to make sure its not clogged.
Other than that turn it off for a day to defrost if nothing else can be found.

Our did that last week at our apartment. Left it off for 24 hrs to defrost, then it worked for a week... then it didn't work at all. Told it needs to be "recharged" by a technician.
dirty filter and/or low on freon(maybe a leak). Time to get a serviceman out before it gets too hot.
ours does the same! get it recharged with freon and change the filters. get some coil cleaner as well for the outside unit! leave it off for awhile too. so you can cool down the house when you go to bed..
Sounds like the system need refrigerant. This needs to be done but a certified tech.
most likely your system is low on refrigerant (has a leak). is your supply fan coming on? if not this can cause this condition. either way you can damage your compressor costing plenty to repair. better have it checked. if you are low on refrigerant, you have a leak in the refigerant circuit. it can be recharged but will leak out again causing same problem. the leak needs to be repaired. refrigerant is high pressure & will leak out into the atomesphere.
I work for an HVAC company and this could be any number of problems. The best thing you can do is call your local HVAC company and have them take a look at it. Most companies will not work on it if you tinker with it yourself because of legal reasons. Your best and safest bet is to have a licensed professional take a look at it and give you a recommendation on repairs. Ask your neighbors who they use as well, there are some companies that will try to sell you a whole new unit even if you dont need one and I dont want to see you ripped off. When you call for your appointment, make sure that the labor is included in the price of the diagnostic (or if it is not what that additional charge may be)... companies will tell you that the diagnostic is a cheap price to get into your door but do not tell you about the hidden labor fees. Good luck, I hope that a simple repair will fix all of your problems, a new unit can be expensive.
