Septic Fumes?

Question:What are the hazards of being in a building with the septic odor/fumes/gases leaking into your work area? It's a one story smaller building. I just want to know about health risks and if there are good web sites to check out.

Answers:
Aside from the unpleasantness, the fumes are a significant health hazard- Hydrogen sulfide is a colorless, very flammable gas. In low concentrations it smells like "rotten eggs" however the sense of smell is lost after 2-15 min of exposure making it impossible to smell dangerous concentrations.

If you want to raise your own stink (wow... I apologize, but it was too good to pass up), contact OSHA, as they regulate the safety of workplaces. Be prepared for your boss to not be thrilled...

Best of luck.
