Can I use Drano to unclog a PVC skimmer pipe in my inground swimming pool?
Question:
Answers:
Your joking right? use a snake..
I'm not familiar with what a skimmer pipe is on a swimming pool, but Drano is completely fine to use on PVC pipe and won't damage it.
No. Besides, the clog is probably due to sand/dirt/grit which drano would have no effect on. You need to use a snake.
I would only do this if you intend to drain your pool anyway. Even the water in skimmer pipes can backwash into the pool, and I definately wouldn't want my children swimming in drano. Besides that, I think it might react with the clarifier. Might want to read those labels.
a pool drain is not like one in the home. Its probably clogged with dirt or debris. This happened to mine. Do this. Backwash your pool filter. Then put a garden hose with the water turned on down into the skimmer and down the pipe. Turn the pump off. and see if this will dislodge the debris. My problem was a large piece of bark used in landscaping
Drano is a harsh chemical used for greasy, protein based clogs. Do not use it in your swimming pool. Your clog needs to be snaked out or try to use the garden hose to break up the clog as someone else suggested.
FORGETABOUTIT!!YOU'RE LOOKING FOR TROUBLE WITH A CAPITAL "T".SNAKE IT OUT OR HAVE IT BLOWN OUT BUT DON'T USE CHEMICALS ON PVC.DON'T FORGET THAT THE CONNECTION ON PVC ARE MADE WITH CHEMICALS..YOU MAY EAT UP THE GLUES THAT SEAL THE CONNECTIONS IF NOT EAT A HOLE IN THE PVC PIPES THEMSELVES FORGETABOUTIT!!
