Where is the thermosat in the oven?

Question:I have had some advice on answers here to check my thermosat in the oven. how do i do this?

Answers:
Why do you need to know where it is to check it?

Most ovens have a bulb either in the back or attached to the top. It can stick out of the back about 3 inches on the newer models, the older ones are about 8 inches long and attach to the roof of the oven. But to check it, you need a fast acting thermometer that you can watch. It really needs to be a thermocouple type.

You put the end in the center(as close as you can) of the oven. Set the oven on the temp that you want to check, and let it heat. The thermometer will go way past the temp setting. Without opening the oven, (leave it alone and just watch the thermometer) allow the temp to drop. This is the "preheat cycle". Once it bottoms out, watch it rise again. Write this temp down. let it fall again. write this temp down. Let it rise & fall one more time, recording the high & low.

Now add all 4 numbers together and divide by 4. If that is within 10 degrees of what the oven is set at, you're good to go! If not, then you now know just how much and in which direction the thermostat is off.

That "swing" you see between the high and low is how all thermostats work!! I've seen ovens with a 20 degree swing, and I've seen them with an 80 degree swing!
What counts in cooking is the average of the swing!

it is by the pot lite
It is a long copper tube fastened to the backwall of the oven. You cannot service it as it is enclosed and a fluid is inside. Doesn't cause a problem that I am aware of.
I'm not sure what state you live in but most Gas Company's will send someone out to look at your stove/oven to make sure it's working properly (it's a service they provide).

if the oven is belongs to the owner the gas company will give you a form to let the owner know that the oven is not working properly so that the owner can get it fixed.

some times people's oven goes out and people will smell gas, if you smell gas, the gas company will come out to your home within a hour or two so that it will not put anyone in danger.

good luck...
