LOG CABIN HOMEOWNERS - Woodpecker doing a # on my friends house?
Question:Does anyone have any tips on how to keep a woodpecker from pecking on a log home? Friends having a terrible time with this, and he has bore holes all over her beautiful home. Is there a certain scent that they don't like, a noise? Any suggestion would be helpful, thank you
Answers:
get rid of whatever it is eating. you can also tell them to get some wooden Owls to place on the roof and around the home. woodpeckers do not like owls.
If a woodpecker is pecking on logs, it's because there are juicy little insects the bird wants to eat.
Call the Orkin man
why dont you get a normal house or bug repelent
The first answer is correct about the insects and they also can detect soft wood pockets for nesting. I would put my money on the insects though since it seems to be happening in more than a few places. Your friend should seek the services of a good exterminator and wood preservative treatment specialist. No good bugs can be found boring into wood. Especially in a wooden home.
local garden shop should carry owls and snakes. get a couple of them, put owl on top of house and in a tree near by. or shot the woodpecker.
Simple. Go to the local barber shop. Gather some used human hair and place small amounts in the existing holes. Also place some in the cracks between the logs in various places that they have been doing their dirtywork (usually a span of about 6 to 10 ft should do between spots). This natural smell of humans should do the trick of getting rid of them.
