How do I rebuild my hill in front of my house after I tear out my terrace that has old rotted railroad ties?

Question:Will it take long for the grass to grow? Is there a way to make sure the ground holds as new grass grows?

Answers:
The best way is to put sod down and the fastest, but expensive. Other then that I would use a straw matting material and water often.
