Is it possible to refinish a wooden desk?
Question:Also, if anyone knows of a way to fix the swelling of wood? So that it is back to a flat surface?
Answers:
I've been finishing, and refinishing, wood for over 30 years. As I tell everyone who asks me, "if it's wood, it can be repaired".
Refinishing a wooden desk is quite time-consuming, but also very rewarding. You'll end up with a desk in the color you want, and will also be able to take pride in the fact that you did it yourself.
As to the swelling, sanding the surface is the way to go.
have you try to sand it down.
I would go to this website, www.kovals.com - they offer a wealth of info on antiques, refinishing and restoring furniture (old or new), and if they dont have it they can offer a list of other places to go
If there are swellings and ripples in the surface, it is probably impractical, but if the damage is just messed-up varnish, sanding and sealing should do. But it will be a long difficult job.
Hi,
Yes, use sand paper and paint it.
