Wiring a fan and a light on a double switch?

Question:this is a wall light and a ceiling fan.they are separate from each other.they were on one switch in a single box.i bought a double switch that fits in a single box.it has two screws on each side and a ground screw.it has a jumper between the commons.i have a black ,white and a ground wire comning from the fan, light and the breaker box.how do i wirer it so each switch works separate.

Answers:
Be sure to turn off the breaker before starting the work.
Three white and three black? If so, connect all the whites together. The black from the breaker box goes on the common screw. The blacks from the light and fan each go on one of the other screws, your choice. Tighten all screws, including the one on the common side with no wire.

without another wire you do not but they make a swirch that sends a radio frequency to a reciever that you locate in the fans junction box, that may be eazier than pulling more wire
You are going to have to tie in a couple of jumpers, one off the pos and one off the negative to have enought wires to hook up to the leads on the switches. Depening on how old the house is you may have to tie in the bare ground wire as well. Just make sure that you have a breaker that is rated high enough to handle off of this or else it will end up _tripping out_ all of the time! Ceiling fans only require one switch...so go for it!! and read your instructions. Tying in a ceiling fan can be tricky if you don't know what you are doing.
