How do you keep brass and copper from tanishing?

Question:I would love to know any homemade remedies to keep brass and copper from tarnishing after it is cleaned! I was told to spray it with pam cooking spray, has anyone done this, or know of something. I don't want to use commercial sealers because I use them to make applebutter & I'm afraid it wouldn't be safe.

Answers:
brass and copper tarnish because they are exposed to oxygen and moisture. i wouldn't use the lacquer if you prepare food in it. maybe a light coat of oil... olive oil?... vegetable?...pam?. it will give a coating to protect it from the oxidation

clear coat, call hardware store and ask for brass lacqure
Keeping things squeaky clean is probably best for food preparation.
Anything organic will invite mold if left on for a long time.
You will end up eating any clear sealant you might apply.
Would get Copper pots & pans to buff from time to time,
& according to users, unless for display only were never coated.
After you`ve polished it take a can of spray laquer and spray it lightly.Works great.
YOU CAN SHINE THEM UP WITH A SOFT STEEL WOOL AND THEN COAT THEM WITH A CLEAR LACQUER..BUT AFTER THAT YOU CAN'T CLEAN THEM WITH ANY KIND OF METAL POLISH...YOU HAVE TO TREAT THEM AS A PAINTED SURFACE AND CLEAN THE AS YOU WOULD ANY OTHER PAINTED SURFACE WITH MILD SOAP AND WATER..NEVER USE ANY ALCOHOL OR PETROLEUM BASED CLEANERS ON THEM..
