Where can I find Provincetown hardboard lap siding made by Champion Building Products in the 1980's?
Question:I have some siding repair needed on my house, and checked for Wellwood / Champion Building Products at local building supplies, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.. No one has any, but I'm hoping someone somewhere has some old, unsold stock. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

It's very likely that this manufacturer suffered through the same kinds of problems that Weyerhauser (along with other companies) had in the early 90's with premature failure in their hardboard siding products. Class action lawsuits ensued, and I'm not even sure if the stuff's even made anymore by anyone. Fiber-reinforced cement board, vinyl and metal are the more prevalent types I'm aware of that are in use today. There are also still many cedar siding manufacturers out there. It's possible, although unlikely, that you could find a match in cedar. Your other alternative is to seek out a local lumber yard or mill that can duplicate your existing pattern in cedar or redwood. Of course this will not be an inexpensive solution, but it is definitely more practical than tracking down a yard that has managed to keep some 20+ year-old siding covered and in pristine condition (one in a billion). Good luck with your repairs.
You may have to put a local ad in the paper. I came across this dated website ( http://www.hadd.com/masonite/ ) that would have discouraged anybody from hanging on to the stuff made with masonite.
There are other manufacturers offering a better solution:

But even the builder's surplus websites didn't offer much.
