Pool Pump Question ?
Question:My pump is leaking in a very odd place. It leaks across from the motor itself where the turbine attaches to the propeller. It sprays water out when it is on but doesn't leak when it is off. This first started when I put the filter on for the first time this year, but the thing was running problem free for an hour or so and then all of a sudden it started to spray water. My pool is an above ground and the filter is a Hayward. Thanks for your answers!

from what i can see it seems like your pump housing is cracking due to either age or temp or both.
you must be certian to back wash your system correctly and also to purge any air out of the system as air is compressable.
i know that i used JB Weld from autozone or from advance auto parts in the ready mixed tube or stick form and it a 2 part epoxy. i have had it on my 99 jeep aluminum housing for 2 years now and it hasnt failed. i have put 50000 miles on the vehicle since.
i would try some jb weld. not the kind you mix your self that kind is harder to mix and doesnt seem to get as strong . use the kind you got to mix in your hands. trust me on this!
the turbine area your referring to is where the water is actually getting pumped soo its the most stressed area. you may be able to go online or call and get a new housing or try ebay? if you dont have a pressure gage on your pool go to the pool shop and ask for one. this will help you to know whats going on with your system and when to back flush your sand filter if it is sand.
you must change filters regulary and keep the pool clean.
never keep any of your pool parts in the direct sunlight.
build a shed or a high pool deck and stow them there.
sun kills the pool parts especally because of the cholorine.
I had motor problems a while back and used the following link, it is very thorough. I took it completely apart put it back together and fixed my problem with this guys site. Good luck.

Sounds to me like the shaft seal. You will have to remove the motor and pump assembly, remove the impellar(not propeller), and the old shaft seal. This is a good time to go ahead and replace the impellar if it is more than 2-3 years old, even if it is composite(plastic). You should also go ahead and replace any gaskets
It sounds like it is either the pump seal or a cracked pump housing or seal plate. Which model Hayward pump is it? If it is one of the Power-Flo pumps (or even the new Matrix above-ground pumps), you can find parts diagrams from Hayward's website.

If you have to replace the pump seal or housing, you will need (among other things) to remove the four thru-bolts on the power cord side of the motor and thread the impeller of the motor shaft. Complete instructions are in the owner's manuals on the Hayward site.
Needs new gaskets or it is cracked.
