What screws to use to mount hose hanger on hardiplank?
Question:What screws should I use to mount the fixture on the hardie plank or fiber cement siding I have on my house? The hanger isnt wide enough to stretch between two wall studs so at the most only one of the 4 would be touching.
Answers:
you don't want to mount it to the siding, you want to mount it to the stud in the wall. i would make sure that you get a hose hanger that can be mounted by two screws, one above the other, to carry the weight. then the other outboard screws can just keep the hanger stable, so it won't pivot away from the siding. when you go to mount it, drill the holes larger than the screw shank size, through the siding, but not through the sheathing. let the outer screws grab to the sheathing, the over and under ones to the stud. also, caulk around the screws so that water can't seep into the wall. a better option might be one of the many free standing hose caddies or holders that are available these days, instead of the old fashioned hangers on the house. there are all styles of pots, urns, and self retracting caddies out there that could do the job. good luck, hope this helps.
Use a #9 3 inch Torx screw. Should be enough grab for you.
