Water softener damages pipes?

Question:with salt running through copper pipes everyday, doesnt the pipe get eaten up? how come ive never heard anyone complain about pipe problems after using water softener? does it sloooowly damage it?

Answers:
The water softener works on ion exchange and uses the brine solution to recharge the ion exchange tank. If your water softener is operating properly, you do not have salt water running through your pipes.

If you have really hard water, you would have more problems with your pipes filling up with deposits because you didn't have a water softner, than you ever will with a little bit of salt running through them.

Not sure if the pipes are slowly damaged by the salt, but I have a feeling it would take a hundred years before you would have problems...
Nope, never will.
