Help with a Dryer Problem!?
Question:My dryer will turn and dry for a few minutes and then shut off. The timer still goes, but it doesn't heat or turn. When I wait a little while it will start back up again. I have tried keeping everything away from the dryer so it wont get warm and I have tried lightening the load. Nothing helps! Help- I have three kids and the laundry is pilling up!

Too many chiefs and not enough indians. All the answers "could" be right. Start with the easy stuff first. Make sure the dryer hose is clean, should see good airflow to outside. I have seen many dryers overheat due to bad airflow, once they cool off, they restart. If that fails, then check the motor

sounds like the motor may be overheating and tripping out. when the motor cools then it works for a while again until the overload trips again. you may need a new motor.
Disconnect the duct from the rear and clean it out. Get a long bristle brush and reach as far as you can with it. Try using the vacuum cleaner hose too. Reach into the dryer where the duct was connected and clean that out too.
Do this every 6 months - 1 year.
Hi,I think the fellow with the motor guess may be right. The tumble drum is belt driven by a motor. The belt could be off kilter on the drum. This causes the motor to work and get hot ,which opens a over load, which stops the drum. There is also a spring loaded guide the belt fits on, to help the drum roll properly, this could have broken off.Aim afraid you will have to have some one look at it for you.DO NOT operate the dryer any more, you may burn up the motor.$$$$ Maybe you could ask a neighbor or relative to help you dry things till you are back in business.
Freakboy is correct ! The motor is toast, no need to scratch your head any farther.
could be the contacts within the timer as it controls the motor and heating element as the heat and motor shuts off if the motor is going toast you would smell it really bad smells like burnt wiring but than again it could be the motor sometimes they just quite for no reason looks like more in depth testing is required ask a friend to take a look see but be careful as there are dangerous voltage's inside the unit
