I need to unlock a door in my house. Keysmiths charge too much, i can't afford it...?

Question:does anybody know how toopen the door without breaking it? The keyhole is that LARGE one, NOT the one that takes the thin key like most front doors. I promisse i won't do it for others if you teach me :) Many thanks

Are you talking about a "Skeleton" keyhole?

With a round hole at the top and a slimmer connecting vertical rectangle at the bottom?
If so, try bending a 16 penny nail like an L and using pliers or vise grips, turn towards your right.
You may have to try several bends before you get it but you Should be able to feel the bolt give if your in the "notch".

Sure would be nice if we could post pics in here.
We could help a Lot more.

you can take the hinges off the door and shove it from one side.
Person who loses their key, gets no nu-kee.
It costs more to have your door jam repaired or a window.
Phone the police and wisper quietly that you are being held hostage by burglars in that room and I'm sure they will put a boot through it and you can claim for a new door on your insurance(as long as you have it!LOL)
DRILL AND BUY NEW LOCK
Are there any visible screws you can undo? Can you get a hack saw between the door and the frame and saw through the locking bit? think it's called the tongue.
sounds fishy to me sounds like you are trying to get into somewhere you shouldnt be ...anyone else wouldnt mind replacing the hinges .why would you not want to tell anyone else?
if its a normal keyhole built into a plate with the handle attached, then there should be 4 screws in each corner that can be undone and the plate and handle removed. you would then be able to get inside the lock and play about with it to get it unlocked.
Breaking a lock is a skilled activity, and you are unlikely to be able to learn it in a short time; you may have to get some lock-picking tools.

The easiest way to do it (and the way a lot of locksmiths will do it) is to drill the lock. Once it has been drilled, you can either put a new lock on or just put a latch on.
Assuming your are being honest and you own the house.you should be able to get at the other side of the door from another entrance. Pop the hinge pins from the inside and lift the door out of the jamb. Once you have pulled the door out, you should be able to dis-assemble the lock mechanism and go to the hardware store to get one with a new keyset. This will work on 99% of the doors out there.

If you have a vertical dead bolt type lock, it is going to be tricky but can be done. Dis-assembly of locks is diffent based on manufacturer.
Sounds like an abloy lock. No way to pick them. Go inside the house you live in and unscrew the lock from inside and replace it. You should change all the locks in your house anyway . Who knows how many people have keys to your house. And if this is not your house then other than busting down the door these people have the right lock to keep you out
From the inside the house you can take off the facing of the lock. Then insert a flat head screw driver into the locking mechanism and turn it to unlock your door. Then replace the lock with a new one.
depends on the type of hinges you,ve got if its the pin kind just knock out the pins and the door should come off.if not do what a lot of people do kick it in.you can buy a inside door at a do-it-yourself store for about £25-£30.
weren't u the one who cld open any door and even wanted to help me with the one Philip locked?
kkkkkkkkkk... now u c it ain't that easy
all I can say is.. use your shoulders kkkkkkkkkkk
You sound very like a trainee burglar. If it's your property, you can get at the other side, can't you?
call in the local joiner who will be far cheaper than these fancy lock company's after all it was a joiners job before these company's started to rip people off with their high prices
cant tell weather you mean Yale or rim-lock, punch pins in hinges and remove from other side,if mortice lock drill barrel or spindle
