What happens inside a lock magnetically opened?

Question:obviously it is demagnetiseation and i can hear when the bolt pops when the lock is demagnetised-so does it magnetise by friction when you manually lock the window and then the magnet depolarises it
it takes a bit of fiddling around to properly place the magnet and when i commented how dangerous it would be in a fire situation people said i had tissues-can anyone but me see how dangerous these magnet operated windows would be when a panicking sleep dazed blinded by smoke person tries to escape from a burning building?-or shoud i just not bother to worry any more?
