Brazing an old steel gate?

Question:I have an old steel gate that has broken apart at the weld, can I just use a blowtorch and braze it back together again?

Answers:
You can, but if the weld broke, the brazing will probably not hold up. Welding is much stronger since it not only deposits metal, but melts and fuses together with the base metal. It would be better to borrow someone's welder or get someone to come out and re-weld it for you.

it probably wont hold
If its not to big remove it and take it to a machine shop to be mig/stick welded. Brazing with a propane torch is not strong enough. Worth a try if you have no other option.
Brazing requires a lot of heat. Not likely a blowtorch would get it hot enough. If you have access to a oxy/acetylene set up, it could be done. You would need to grind a "V" at the break and use brazing flux and a properly sized tip.
