Mildew Smell In Carpets?

Question:I bought a house that sat vacant for a year. I want to live in it for six months until I build a new home. The carpeting is still in good shape and I really don't want to rip it out. Is there a chemical that can be added to a carpet cleaner that will get rid of the smell.

Answers:
lol

I doubt it. There are products, like Carpet Fresh, that you can sprinkle on and vacume up. It might hold the smell down for as long as your going to be there.
try borax sprinkle it on and let it sit all day then vaccume
I hate to burst your bubble but there really isn't much you can do short of replacing it. It is possible that somewhere along the line there was a leak of some sort or something was spilled on it and was never completely vaccumed out. Also, when a building sits vacant fopr extended periods of time it will develop smells that are nearly impossible to remove. Save yourself a lot of trouble and just replace it. You'll be glad you did.
