Electricity Meter keeps turning with no load?
Question:I unplugged everything in the the house, turned off everything but the meter keeps turning very slowly for like over 30 seconds. Once I even saw it turn the other way around (from Right to Left instead of Left to Right VERY slowly). Is this a fault in the meter? Or a leak in the house wiring?
Answers:
Your wiring will not leak energy. But things such as your refrigerator is still using electricity and you have a constant flow to outlets and lights the only real way to know if your meter is bad is to have it tested or simply go to your breaker box and turn the breakers all off.
It's unlikely you could unplug EVERYTHING in the house. Your furnace, for instance, is hard-wired into your system, and so would be any security systems.
The "turning the wrong way around" could be a symptom of a problem with the meter unless you have some sort of generating system running, though.
You might want to call your electric utility and tell them about it.
Neither. It is normal unless you turn it off at the main.Your meter has power fed in from the outside.Even though your not using anything, your wire from the road is alive, and electricity flows through it.If you saw the meter turn the other way, you might find the electricity company had what is termed an "Outage".This is when your power flows out.Electricity companies can control your meter, even though you are not aware of it.They are very fond of winding the meters on.In my case this happens in the dead of night. I know I don't use the amount of power I am billed for.But it would be a darn nuisance to keep turning off at night.
call your power company and ask for a new meter. power meters do wear out, i had mine replaced and my bill went down
Any thing in your house that has a memory like clocks, coffee pot ,tv computer. Just about any thing that is plugged in and has an led light .
