Does any one have suggestions to reduce noise from an upstairs apartment; quiet rock? green glue? other?
Question:
Answers:
Extra insulation and thick carpet.
Unfortunately, the only way you're really going to be able to tone down coming from the noise upstairs is to talk to your neighbors and tell them they are noisy. If they are aware, then they can try to be quieter.
Banging on the ceiling followed by a few choice expletives!
Quietrock is really damn expensive...about 8X the cost of regular drywall. Even if you overlay the ceiling with Quietrock or another material, sound will transfer through the framing in the walls, through electrical boxes, etc. Without tearing your entire apt apart, you won't realize a huge difference no matter what you do. Turn up your music louder...sorry.
I really think that your landlord should be told about the noise.
I don't think that they will allow you to put anything on the ceiling to insulate .
Your best bet is to create a small airspace for the noise to get caught in. You could strap the ceiling with reziliant channel, then fasten acoustical panels to that channel; and than drywall over the panels for a finished effect. This would definitley reduce some noise transfer. Good luck!
Welcome to the world of apartment dwelling. I've dealt with this for decades and the noise is worse, because the stereos are louder. In most of the places that I've lived, management doesn't care. They say they will send a notice and after 2 times they get evicted. "right".. I have found that people who play they're music/TV up too loud, usually get mad when you ask them to turn it down. I've been surprised a couple of times, but on the whole, they don't care.
1.You could wear ear plugs (they didn't work for me).
2. I have white noise machines, they can help a little.
3. I've offered to buy my neighbors those walk around headsets, no takers.
4. I have tried the "let's be friends approach." only works for about a week.
5. The best method, was when I got a block of wood and hammer and banged it over their bed. That got results. I did it sporadically for HOURS. We were on different shifts. I promise this is highly effective. Good luck.
