Strange foam in the water tank?
Question:We are moving into a flat which has been empty for about 4 months, and the water was drained. We noticed that there is some strange foam (white spongy thing) in the cold water tank, and we are afraid to use it until we find out what it is. Does anyone know why it is there? Can we just take it out and use the tank normally?
Answers:
Bale out the foam , drain the tank, wash out with bleach solution, remove the now dirty water into a bucket, mop-up the residue. Allow tank to fill up in the normal way, and use. fortunately you don't drink this water as your drinking water is from the incoming mains. The foam may have been bacteria growing in the tank.
Cant you drain the tank then refill ? Probably the best answer but if you're worried then get a plumber in ..
It's internal insulation, to keep the tank from sweating. If you tank it out, you notice you have a lot of water around the tank every day. Leave it in place.
tak it out if you want it shoudnt make much of a diffreence sweating does not cause a big problem
