Anyone familiar with older homes, esp electrical outlets?

Question:I have a home that is 70 yrs old, it even has a ironing board built into the wall and a plug for an electric clock in the kitchen. I have an outlet/lightswitch combo on this outlet, the only one in the house has a little orange light in it. Most times it is off but it comes on every now and then. Usually after we have had teh light on that is used by that switch.
Anybody know why that light comes on, and only stays on for a few hours then shuts off (the little orange light) it usualy turns off after we turn off the wall light above it and is about an hour after that.
TEN points to whoever can answer this.
Have lived here 3 years and would like to know why.

That orange light sounds strange! i would punch it out

It's an automatic shut off switch for the iron, if you leave it on by mistake.
That should be an illuminated switch. It should glow orange when the switch is off. Kind of a nite light, so you don`t stick your fingers in the receptacle by accident at nite when trying to find the light switch. If its that old and the light still works even part time you are lucky. They usually only last 10-20 yrs. You can still buy them at most hardware stores. $8-24.
This switch might be a 3 way switch there may be another switch on the other side of the room , when the other switch is in the up position the lighted switch is off
