Is it possible to restore color to a carpet with dye?
Question:the house I am buying has nice chocolate brown carpet in the front room but one small area about 12" square looks like someone spilled bleach on it. The color is faded almost to white. Any idea how to fix this? I can't really afford to put new carpet in.
Thanks.

There is a dye in a spray can called Sims you can purchase it at Oreilly's or other auto parts stores. If you don't see the color you need ask them, they have a color chart there. I own an auto detailing business and this is what we use on carpet and seats. Hope this helps.
It's impossible to restore anything to its exact original color, the fabric was colored before it was weaved, on top of that you dont know what color the fabric had before it was bleach (it would be important to know this) and finding out ecactly what color they used would be tough.
You could however give it a similar color, or just another good color. A nice pastel should work good, earth colors, especialy if you let the past color show through, it might even look better than it did in the first place
never matches. there will always be a patch that doesn't look right, no matter how close you think the dyes look, just because one part was done at a different time and looks newer than the rest. Best bets are creative furniture rearrangement or a small area rug.
There are proffesional companies that do this and to have it done right this is the thing to do.
Call a local carpet company and they should be able to help you find a very reliable person to do this for you.
