How do you find the hole(s) in an air mattress?
Question:I have a kit to fix the mattress, but I don't know where the slow -leaking hole is. As crazy as it sounds, my only hope, at this point, is to submerge the hole thing in the nearby river (which is going to cause my neighbors to think I've went coo - coo). I actually have 3 that I've collected over the past few years with the exact problem...so fixing the problem, instead of buying new ones, would be worthwhile. Have any suggestions?
Answers:
lol..u dont have to submerge the whole thing in the river..just get it to be not so full of air that you can bend it and stuff...then fill ur tub with water..and submerge it part by part(and since it has some air in but not much u can bend it all over and get all parts in there one at a time)
good luck!=)
submerge them in your bathtub where you can see the air leaks better and your neighbors won't see what you are doing. . . .
put water on it
you can also spray it with a garden hose and look for airbubbles, it will also make a gargaling sound. this is a little easier then taking it to a river probably cleaner also
This is what you do. Get some water and pour it sparingly on the mattress. Sit on it and see where it bubbles. usually air mattresses are not covered in plastic so the water should not damage it. The River idea may be a little much.
ok one thing that you might try before dunking it under water is. make sure that there is nothing on. no sound. and fill up the airmatteress as full as you can get it. and then put your ear up to the matteress and see if you can heat the air coming out. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
If you can't find the leak via the water method that other posters suggested, it's probably leaking from the valve and no longer good.
Take a glass of water and pour over matress, outside or in your bathtub. When the water hits the hole you will see the water sort of jump up if you are watching very close. My husband does this to find holes in his tires.
The other way is to put your ear next to matress listening for the air escaping.
how about taking your mattress for a swim ?
mix a little dish washing soap and water in a spray bottle, fill the mattress with air and spray with the soap and water mixture.
mattress aired up.
toss bucket soapy water on it.
push on mattress to force air out.
watch for the soapy bubbles.
mark spot with permanent marker.
flip over repeat.
fix.
enjoy.
