How much would it cost to have central air installed in a 2 story home in ohio ?
Question:The house already has forced heat so i am guessing duct work is already in place? any guestimate would be ok thanks house is about 1000 sq ft and would the air be just as cool upstairs as downstairs
Answers:
$1500 to $2000 per ton for new installation. Mr. Steve Tower must not be keeping up with new codes. The least efficient unit you can have now is a 13 SEER. The up stair area will never be as cool as the downstairs (heat rises) And are you sure on the sq footage? 1000 sq ft is a little small for a two level house. If so, 400 to 600 sq ft per ton of cooling.

Don't know about Ohio, but in May '06 it cost $4000 on LI in NY. That included insulated flexible vent tubing. The separate tubing made sense because the existing duct work was on the bottom of the walls because heat rises. The new flexible ducts are now in the ceiling because cold air falls to the floor. They are also an insulated tubing while the heat ducts are bent steel without any insulation on the outside.
Right ,but is the duct work in good condition?I would call someone to come out for a free estimate.
You are looking at about a 2 ton system, if you go with moderate efficiency, say 12 SEER, the cost would be in the neighborhood of $2,000, maybe a little more. A low efficiency unit would be cheaper and a high efficiency unit more.
You should also, if your furnace is "aged" may want to consider up grading it also, that would total around $ 4500.00
About $2-3K- but call your electric company. There was a deduction/rebate program available if you put in a central air system that is high efficiency- and the electric co. we use ( PECO- in Philadelphia) had all kinds of information available on it. Maybe something exists in your community that will help reduce your costs, too!
