Refurbishing?

Question:I have a home that was built in 1942. It has the original windows and they are in excellent condition. However, they do need a clean-up such as the old paint coming off inside and out. The cords need to be replaced. How would I go about looking for someone to do the work? I do not know how to research for this one.

Answers:
I live in a 110 year old Victorian home. I have been "refurbishing" for the last 2 years since we moved in. Many of the fixtures and hardware, windows, doors and trim are original and needed some care. I found that people at your local hardware store (not the giant mega-stores) can be really helpful since they are familiar with craftsmen and specialists who frequent their place of business. For your specific window repairs a good handyman would probably fit the bill.
