How do you clean a clogged plastic shower pipe/drain?
Question:
Answers:
Most problems with shower drains is hair. Shower drains have a removable chrome cover. Take a flat screwdriver and pry upward under the chrome strainer and it will come off. Then you have access to the drain pipe. More than likely you will find it clogged with hair.
CLR.
Take a cable snake and carefully shove in and out down the
drain a few inches at a time until drain clears...
1st, remove the drain cover. Use a flashlight and a long, thin screwdriver to scrape/remove the hair that is clinging to the drain. This is a dirty job, wear gloves or something. Most shower drain clogs are hair clogs and most of the time, you can get enough of the hair out this way. However, if not, a chemical drain opener will work. READ the instructions on proper use!! If the drain flange is chrome, wipe off any of the chemical that gets on it, it will dis-color it if left there. After allowing the chemical to do it's job, flush the drain with hot water and reinstall the cover.
You might try a toilet plunger if you haven't already. People tend to think of them only for toilet clogs but I've had good luck unclogging my shower with one in the past, and you don't have to worry about any chemical damage. Baking soda, some salt, and then vinegar poured into the drain and left for about ten minutes and then plunged sometimes works wonders. Again not chemical, but the soda and the vinegar DO react, so have eye/face protection.
First you need to run water in the sink in the room that the shower is in. If water comes up thought the shower drain you will know they are hooked together. If so remove sinks pee trap and run your cable snake thought there much easier. If water dose not come up in the shower you will have to snake thought the the shower drain it will be a little harder because you will half to feed the snake thought the showers pee trap
if theres no access panel in the shower tray stand, then you most probably have a top accessible trap. pull the cover up,, it may be tight so use some long nose pliers, then you should have a piece inside, in the centre that will pull out, sometimes you have to twist this centre piece first before pulling. clean trap, then re assemble.
good luck
with a snake
