How do you get sticky residue off vinyl siding?
Question:The people that lived in our home before us used those little double sided sticky squares to hang hooks for their christmas lights in the shape of a tree on our vinyl siding. How do you get the sticky residue off without haming the siding?
Answers:
WD-40 or any similar Petroleum based solvent. Don't try detergent or water based solvent.
I agree with using a petroleum based product. The only problem with spot cleaning your siding like that is you will leave patches of very clean spots.
You should power wash the siding as well. It's very easy to do, and does not take long. Power washers are inexpensive to rent, or if you want to own one you don't need a very powerful one for this sort of job so the price should be reasonable. I power wash my vinyl siding every two years or so.
Goof-off is a great product to remove sticky residue. I think it is non-toxic and has a nice orange scent. I have seen this product in grocery stores and home improvment centers.
