Backyard pest?
Question:I have a small vegatable garden in my yard, and I can't pick a single veggie because the squirrels either eat the plant's flowers, or carry off a the whole cucumber! I need suggestions to stop the squirrels from getting my plants. And no, I cannot have a dog or cat since I'm allergic to both. Also don't suggest that I shoot the rodents. I don't want to wipe out the population. I just want to get a decent amount of vegatables.
Answers:
Put up a simple mesh fence or chicken coop wire. There are also low voltage wires out there you can hook up and the squirrels or other invading critters will just a get a shock and learn to stay away from your garden.
they make some sort of repellent or poison that would turn them off that you could probably find at your local hardware store, or put peanuts somewhere away from your garden so they would be occupied with the peanuts and not your garden!
Use chicken wire or some other kind of wire fencing to build a cage or cages and pop it over your plants. The sun and water and everything else can get in, just not the squirrels and you can just lift the cage off when you want to get to your veggies.
