Hot room, rest of the house is fine any suggestions?
Question:My room get very hot where the rest of the house stays cool when the AC is on, its the room furthest from the AC but the room next door is fine. Can you suggest any simple things to keep the room cool, I have an LCD tv, computer /w lcd monitor and ps3/cable box, sending off heat into the room, lcds room cooler than crt's i've noticed. I have a cieling fan and a large desk fan running 24/7 on high and the door stays open, still gets hot. When not using electronics I turn them off and try to keep them off whenever possible

the fact is, most hvac installers didnt take into consideration the amount of electronics and added heat load when the unit was installed. My house was built in 1958 and i dont think they took into account my games and computer either. If your game room is at the end of the run, it's not gonna be cooled adaquately. Try putting in a small window unit to supplement. I know the energy bill is gonna be nuts but the main unit isnt handling it.
The long term solution is to divide the house into 2 zones. This is done with 2 units and their own unique ductwork. It divides the heat load so you wont overwork 1 trying to get those last couple of degrees out of cooling at the end of the run. In the meantime, try closing vents in rooms that are less important. This will increase pressure slightly. Play with it, see if it works, every system is different,
Check to make sure the vent is open. Not just the wall plate but a damper in the duct work may be closed.
My son's room is the same way. I just use fans. I position one in front of the ac and one in the doorway of his room.
This has helped us. It may not be what you want to do.it sounds like your energy bill may be high to start...
check air ducts for leaks and clogs and check also the fan from your air ducts.
improve ventilation by adding exhaust fan if possible
Where is your room oriented with regard to the sun? If the sun beats on the walls all day, and you have poor insulation, central air will never get any better. Think about a small window unit for your room alone.
check to see if your vents are open for one thing. My suggestion is, if your not using your computer then turn it off, computers generate more heat than any other electrical interactive appliance. Although you say you leave them off when you can, maybe also try opening your windows a little bit at night (if you have screens for bugs) just for about an hour, it can let all of the hot air out, its really just not circulating enough if the room stays hot for over an hour. Good luck!
is there air vents and if so does cold air seem to blow through them as much as the others if not it may be blocked or possibly it has been damaged causing it to lose air. if all is well you may not have any insulation
My thoughts are maybe you need to check the insulation in the ceiling and walls. Our bedroom was like that and adding insulation helped a lot.
rooms facing south tend to be hotter. not much you can do there. Try partialy closing or closing some of the other vents that are not in use in other rooms.
try seeing if the furnace air vent is open. try running the fan on your furnace and it will help circulate the air evenly throughout.
If you cannot do that; then take a fan and place in the window FACING OUT of the window. Blow wind out of window instead of in.
Crack the door to create a vacuum and it will draw the cool air in and displace the hot air by drawing it out.
Please try it, it works and is economical too. It keeps the AC from working so hard. Keep furnace filters changed too. It moves air better, kind of like clear lungs.
First make sure your vent has air blowing out and the dampers are opened. If it looks open and you have airflow go through and close each vent a little bit (not too much or you may starve the unit), star closest to the unit and work towards your room. If there are rooms that are colder than the rest you can close these a little more. This should get a little more air to your room.
Get metal roofing. It reflects heat effectively keeping your house cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Here's a great company's website that sells metal roofing.
