WHERE, HOW can I find the DATE WHEN OUR HOUSE WAS BUILT? Could not find it on the deed.?

Question:HOUSE IS OVER 100 YEARS OLD and would like to consider some restoration work, perhaps contacting the Boston Historical Society.

Answers:
For a house that old, you may not be able to learn the exact date. Check with the building department to see how far back their records go.

go to your local office of the city assessor or municipal or city engineer and check if your house was issued a certificate of occupancy. the certificate of occupancy is ussualy issued after the house was reported finished and completed construction.
The historical records ( when the house was first purchased ) the deed was handled by a bank / morgage company. Even if house was purchased for cash - it had to be reported when sold, by the seller.
The mortgage company that insures the house has to have the entire history of the house and all the previous owners back to the very first ones who owned the land. This insures them all titles are cleared.
You usually pay for an attorney to check all this through the land company and never know what it's for, most people don't pay attention to this fact.
