I have a problem with my garage flourescent lights when it rains or the weather is damp.?

Question:Whenever it rains, and for some time after, the flourescent lights on my garage ceiling either won't come on at all, our will come on intermittently. Is this a problem with the bulbs, the ballast, or possibly the electrical circuit itself? It seems the damp weather affects this. When it dries up, they come on with no problem.

Answers:
I would imagine it being the ballast or the wiring. Switch off your breaker and check your wires. If they are fine then its your ballast.

Is your garage heated ? if it is too cold and your ballast is not design for cold temps you may have problems also check too see if you may have a water leak it maybe getting in the fixture.GOOD LUCK
it takes longer for the gas in the bulbs to heat during the damp and cold time of the year , you can replace the ballasts
with ones that are designed for your application.
