Why did my garbage disposal leak all over the floor?

Question:i was running my disposal today and when I went into the basement there was wedding soup all over the floor, from a pipi that appears to be an air vent with no cap why did this happen

This usually happens when the garbage disposal clogs up the hose leading into it from a dishwasher drain. You would take this hose off (usually runs from side of disposal to dishwasher) and clean it out with a piece of hanger and reattach it.

If you don't have a dishwasher or it really is leaking in the basement, that means that your piping is clogged by the debris from the disposal somewhere past that air vent. If everything else from the sink still comes out of that air vent Drano will not work and you'll have to call a plumber. It doesn't sound like the drain is vented properly anyway.
